Owner Evelyn Lidell works alongside her daughters and granddaughters in the kitchen, serving up the down-home southern recipes that have been in their family for generations.
They know the recipes so well, they never even need to measure.
"In soul food, we don't measure anything. We just season. If they say no flavor, they're not talking about Evelyn's Soul Food, they're talking about somebody else!" jokes Evelyn.

Our Story
Evelyn’s Soul Food is the realization of lifelong work by owner and head chef, Evelyn Lidell. She has been striving, since opening in 2019, to take the years of experience she gathered perfecting her craft as a homemaker to provide an unexpectedly good, stick-to-your-ribs, home cooked soul-food experience for the masses serving foodie fans from across the greater part of the Texas Gulf Coast.
Evelyn’s is no doubt a family affair! With encouragement from her daughter and husband, Evelyn crafted a family business out of recipes she learned helping her own mother in the kitchen. Evelyn’s passing down that legacy to her own children and grandchildren working alongside her; a guarantee that Wharton can count on a consistent, from scratch, soul food source for years to come.
At Evelyn's seasoning and love is never lacking. Diners are encouraged to leave their diets at the door because this outstandingly good, down-home, comfort food represents the absolute best Wharton has to offer.
